The Twister Takes Wire-Bending
Industry by Storm
Fremont Machine and Tool's New 3-D Wire Forming Machine
is a New Alternative for Manufacturers
FREMONT, NE - April 27, 1999 - Fremont Machine and
Tool (FMT) today announced the product launch of The
Twister, a new generation wire-forming machine
capable of bending unlimited styles of 3-D wire. It
is a new alternative for the wire-bending industry:
comparable in price to dedicated tooling yet automated,
and smaller and less expensive than Computer Numerical
Control (CNC) machines. It works with logic controls
that do not require programming skills for operation.
The Twister was developed when FMT designed a
wire-forming program for a wire manufacturer. During
the engagement, it became apparent that many of the
manufacturer's personnel who worked with wire-forming
machines did not have the skills to program them. So
FMT designed The Twister with its patented Vers-Econ
Logic control system - user-friendly,
semi-computerized technology that does not require programming
skills.
This means that operators of The Twister can
quickly adjust wire by a few touches on the machine's
control screen or adjust the length between bends and
the degrees of bend with a hex wrench. On a CNC machine
these adjustments would normally stop production in
order to locate proper personnel.
"We have hit on a wire-bending solution that is easy
to operate yet highly precise," said David Benes, president
of Fremont Machine and Tool. "The Twister is a
perfect alternative for manufacturers in all industries
that need 3-D wire bending because of its price and
the quality of its manufacturing capabilities."
The Twister is designed to meet wire-bending
needs for manufacturers of shelving, display racks,
automobiles, furniture, appliances, decorative arts
- and other industries including concrete construction.
It is used for production runs, prototyping or as an
affordable backup to existing machines. The Twister
is the only machine in its category that is manufactured
in the United States, where it can be bought off the
shelf or customized for manufacturer requirements.
Here are some important details about The Twister:
- Its introductory price of $39,500 is much lower
than fully computerized, difficult to program wire-bending
machines which can cost as much as $200,000.
- It uses pre-straightened wire and is capable of
handling wires up to ¼" in diameter and up to 36"
in length.
- Its small size (5 feet x 6 ½ feet, roughly ¼ the
size of CNC machines) means that it can be set up
either in a cell or in a multi-machine configuration
run by one operator.
- It has the ability to mirror right-hand or left-hand
parts with one touch of a control screen without the
need for expensive, time-consuming programming.
- With one single adjustment, every bend The Twister
makes adjusts wires equally to compensate for varying
tensile strengths.
